Awesome Quotes

You’re never going to be truly filled with joy unless you truly know yourself for who you are, and until you are a real sinner with a real savior, you will be a hypothetical and theoretical sinner with a hypothetical and theoretical savior. — Derek Webb

Worship Wednesday: Let The Future Begin!

Written by Josh Collins. Posted in Worship Wednesday

Change of plans.

You see I originally had something all planned out for today but if I would have gone thru with that, I would have missed missed something really awesome.

Yesterday marked the release of Passion’s newest Live Worship Recording called Let The Future Begin.

I tweeted this yesterday but if you want to know what authentic extravagant kingdom worship is, then download this record, turn your phone off, and sit and be drawn into the sacred!

Here’s a link in case you need it.

Although, the entirety of the record delivers an awesome experience, there are 2 songs in particular that I want to highlight with today’s Worship Wednesday post.

The first is called The Lord Our God and the second is called Here’s My Heart.  I was going to include a preview of both of them but decided against it because, well, just go buy the record.

There really isn’t much else I need to say.

Whether you identify yourself as a worshipper like me or not, or whether the sacred spaces are common to your journey or not, let today’s post be an invitation.

An invitation to the awesome.

An invitation to the sacred.

An invitation to the extravagant worship of the only One who deserves it!

There’s Something About Vision

Written by Josh Collins. Posted in Church, Leadership

When I ask the question do any of you know anyone who has vision, does anyone immediately come to mind?

I’m not talking about seeing, not talking about any metric of optics.

I’m talking about vision.

Someone who sees something and when they speak it, it makes you step back and go, whoa, something huge is about to happen there.  You say to yourself, “There is power behind this and I’ve either got to either get on board or get out-of-the-way!”

That’s what I”m talking about.

Off the top of my head I’m talking about people like Elisha, Ezekiel, and Jeremiah, from the BIble.

Most of us, including myself at times, would marginalize the use of those names as examples, because obviously they were great men, prophets used to accomplish great and mighty things for the Lord.

But.

There it is, that single word, that when used, opens up the doors for us to be put into check.

But, those men, I’ve come to learn, are in fact no greater than you or I.

Now, that may be a statement you either can agree with or disagree with but either way, I’m confident in its truth.

They walked the earth, had feelings, fears, concerns, anxieties, and had to deal with every single thing we deal with today.  (Ok maybe with the exception of accidentally dropping an iPhone into the toilet, which both my wife and I have done by the way, and it’s oh so not cool.)

My point though, in using them as examples is this.  Often times, we make these agreements with ourselves that discount our voices and stories, assuming that we could never do what they did, or never know anyone like them.  We distance ourselves from the benefit of being able to even read about them and study the scriptures in which their stories are even shared in the first place.

Well, let me introduce you to a couple of guys and a new movement in the city of Nashville. I believe they have tremendous vision and are blazing a path, similar to those great men I referenced earlier.

Jake Smith Jr. and Darren Whitehead, both formerly Pastors at Willow Creek in Chicago, are launching a new church in Nashville called Church of the City.  You can follow them on twitter @JakeSmithjr and @DarrenWhitehead, and you can also find Church of the City on twitter @churchofthecity.

There vision is unique and their passion is unrivaled.

Take a look at this trailer:

Church of the City Vision: Coming Easter 2013 from Church of the City on Vimeo.

I’m going to lend my voice here, because I’ve been all over the world, and been in churches all over the planet, and there is something fresh, exciting and truly authentic about whats happening here.

I’m inviting you to check them out and get involved.

Do you know anyone like these guys? What are they involved in that has you taking notice?

The #1 way to live an Authentic Life!

Written by Josh Collins. Posted in Misc

Somehow I ended up in a really great conversation the other night with some friends about what it means to live an authentic life.  You see, it started by me explaining what it means to create authentic experiences.

I know too often, the church can use language that most of us sometimes end up walking away, saying “now what in the world were they talking about?”

Well its sort of that way when talking about living an authentic life.

So, for your eyes only, I’m going to give you the #1 way to live an Authentic Life!

Be.  Present.

There you have it!  Its that simple.  Be present.

Don’t be so quick to move on to the next project or task, that you skip right past your heart or even perhaps with good intention, ignore the hurting or needy around you.

I truly believe that part of living an authentic life starts with my word of the year and thats intentional.

When we make the choice to be intentional, we can’t help but be present in our circumstances, present in our pain, and present in our families.

In what ways are you avoiding being present?

What parts of your heart are you ignoring?

Finding our true authentic voice.

Written by Josh Collins. Posted in Misc

Being a story teller and having been involved in creating so many experiences over the years, one of the most important things I’ve come to realize is just how important it is to find our one true authentic voice.

There are so many voices out there in our world today begging for our attention. So many of them saying “do this and do that,” and even more now than ever saying “follow these 6 steps and you’ll be able to be just like me!”

But let me ask you a question. Is your voice meant to be just them?

Is your one true authentic voice being used to impact and influence the world around you?

Do you know that your voice has power? That your stories and your experience matter?

image

There is not one single other person on the face of the planet like you.

Have you ever done a google search for your name, or searched on Facebook? You’ll quickly learn, that there are at least hundreds of other people with your same name, maybe even same spelling, but the truth is they are not you!

They cannot copy your stories, copy your experiences, and ultimately copy you!

Thats why you are so important. Don’t get caught in the trap of simply trying to follow someone else’s blueprint and forget to find your authentic voice and tell your true stories.

Its so easy to get sucked into the “doing” or “following” someone else’s best intentions to help guide us or influence us. But the reality is that when we let that misplace our true voice, we become like the person in the Book of James, who walks past a mirror and sees their face and then immediately forgets it.

Your voice matters.

Your stories matter.

Your experience matters.

What we need is more of you!

I love knowing how others are finding their voices.  Leave a comment and let me know what you’re going thru finding your true voice.
